Dirt

Such is Life | Pause & Reflect

Bring your dirtiness. Bring your guilt. Bring your shame. Bring your nothing. Only then will you be able to bring your everything.

I have had a lot of hurt in my life. I have been places that no one else has been, seen things that no one else has seen, and done things that no one else would ever think of doing.  I have used and been used, willingly and un-.  It has been said that "Andrea Martin learns the hard way."  I am a victim of myself.  But, you can't change me; I can't change me; Only God can do that.

WE all have our own unique experiences that make us who we are.  Your dirt will never be my dirt, just as mine will never be yours.

WHAT I have learned is that dirt allows life [take a look outside].  It is the times of utmost desolation that provoke thought... creation... innovation.  When dirt is properly cultivated and hydrated, life blossoms.  Whatever they may be, it is time to start cultivating your desolate lands.

I hear far too often, "If there is a loving God, why does he let all of the terrible things in this world happen?"  I am a firm believer that THAT is why.  He does not wish desolation on any of His children.  But, He sees the outcome before we do.  We are all works of art.  Just as the potter kneads and pounds his clay to remove air pockets [impurities], molds it into an entirely new form, throws it into a 2,000 degree kiln, and then marvels at its final form, God performs this same process on us.  He is the divine potter.

THERE was a time in my life when my parents did everything in their power to save me from myself.  From setting curfews to tracking down my whereabouts & physically pulling me out of bad situations... to calling the police... to holding interventions with people who cared about me... and even to showing up at a friend's house with a squad of men in black [my many uncles] to bring me home after having filed a missing persons report.  They did not give up on me.  And God has not given up on you.

GOD has given us all the tools we need for the cultivation of abundant life.  All the answers we need can be found within.  Laws and literature were not written to deprive us of life (a common perception), just as my parents did not wish to deprive me of life.  They were written to guide us and to protect us from ourselves. From pain.

AS the potter is with his clay, He is patient with us.  God isn't looking for perfection.  If you look close enough, you will find that the newly fired pot still has imperfections.

I have been put through the fire, but I am no where close to being perfect.  I have bubbles and lines that need to be retouched & refined.  I even fall off the counter once in a while and need to be gorilla-glued back together.  But, I am never replaced.  I am loved too much.  Too much time and effort have gone in to my creation and completion.  Our imperfections are what make us unique... human.  And, I have learned how to keep myself from falling off the table.

THE answer is simple- God.  My comfort, my joy, my stability.  No matter how big the thing is that tries to break me, I have found sturdy ground.  I acknowledge that whenever my focus on Him starts to dwindle, I slowly begin creeping myself to the edge of the counter.  Sometimes even leaning off balance to catch a glimpse of what lies below.  Although I know what is down there, my flesh still longs to go downward.

I want to stay on the counter.  With God as my rock.  To do this, I must be in constant communion with Him.  To be in constant communion with Him, I must deny the flesh daily.  I must wake up with a breath of gratitude to the One who delivers me time and again from myself.  I must start my morning in the Word and in prayer.  I must pause & reflect and allow Him to guide my every decision.  And, I must serve as an example to help others stay on the counter.

ONCE we acknowledge our filth, God promises to make us beautiful.  Who better to fix us than our creator? He makes us new and fills us with His spirit so that we may have power in His name.  Power over pain.  Power over circumstances.  Power over addiction.  Power over evil.

SO I say again:

Bring your dirtiness. Bring your guilt. Bring your shame. Bring your nothing. Only then will you be able to bring your everything.

ASK God to remove whatever strongholds in your life that are prohibiting you from being your best you.  I promise you He will, because He has promised that He will.

[Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling,
And to present you faultless
Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,
To God our Savior,
Who alone is wise,
Be glory and majesty,
Dominion and power,
Both now and forever.
Amen.]
