Such is Life | Pause & Reflect

DUALLY derived from the French phrase "C'est la vie" and Hebrew term "Selah", Selah V is a weekly blog that parallels both of these terms through a thoughtful reflection on life.

INDICATIVE of its starting point, Selah V also hints to this 5th year (Roman Numeral V) of my spiritual renewal.  My name is Andrea Jayne Martin, founder of Selah® | Holistic Yoga.  5 years ago, I was isolated, stripped down & made new... delivered from the bondage of addiction and enlightened with a renewed purpose & spirit of compassion for myself and others.  What I have left is a constant burden to use my personal testimony to support and encourage others on their own journey to abundant living.

I have wanted to create this blog for some time now, but...

 ~Four Seasons Pose~ -Begin in Mountain Pose, focusing on a single eye level point ahead of you. -Shift weight to left foot as you release the right foot from the floor, bending at the knee to bring the top of the foot into your right hand. -Knees remain parallel to each other, hip-width apart, as you lift the right heel towards the right glute. -Release the right quad, keep the hips neutral, and engage the glutes to intensify the stretch. -Continue pulling up through the crown of the head as you take 3 deep inhales and exhales. -Gently release the foot back into Mountain Pose. -Repeat on other side.

"To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven:
A time to be born,
And a time to die;
A time to plant,
And a time to pluck what is planted;
A time to kill,
And a time to heal;
A time to break down,
And a time to build up;
A time to weep,
And a time to laugh;
A time to mourn,
And a time to dance..."

THE reality is that between juggling full-time work & school balanced with abundant living & relationships, I was SO not ready.  To be honest, I am still not ready from my own perspective.  But, is one ever fully ready?  One definition describes the word ready as "within reach."  Through contemplation and prayer, the answer I found was that I do not need to have "arrived" at this unreachable destination to be heard.  Or to have impact.  Instead, I must ask, "Is this within reach?"  The answer to that question over the past 5 years has been a consistent no.  Life was often just short of chaos.  But, as of this past Saturday, this yogini is now a Rhode Island College Graduate holding 2 Bachelor's Degrees, a Minor, and a Certificate- and all of a sudden has some free time on her hands.  I also know these posts will look much different now than they would have 5 years ago.  So, destiny, I am ready now.

     -Begin in Four Seasons Pose (above). -Start pressing into your hand with the top of the lifted foot.  This will cause the leg to begin to rise. -As the leg rises, reach forward with the opposite arm at shoulder level, keeping the torso lifted and eyes straight ahead. -Focus on lifting the leg from the hips as opposed to the foot to increase the stretch. - Relax the face, and take 3 deep inhales and exhales. -Slowly release leg back into Four Seasons Pose, and then release foot back into Mountain Pose. -Repeat on other side.
